
For 21 years, the New Avenues Therapeutic Summer Camp in Lake County program has filled a significant gap in the learning, therapeutic and socialization continuum for five weeks each summer for 85 young people, ages 3 to 21. Summer Camp runs for 5 weeks during June and July.
The summer program helps to maintain and improve skills and support priority needs for each participant. Physical, occupational, speech, art, music, therapies specific to participants with autism, and other therapies are available in addition to recreational activities such as swimming and gym. A nurse is on the grounds at all times.

The purpose of Summer Camp is to provide summer recreational and educational activities. Children with special needs benefit from staff who are trained to reinforce the goals of each participant.

New Avenues offers inclusive programs for children and youth aged 3-21, with and without disabilities, to support their development and provide engaging activities.
New Avenues to Independence Therapeutic Summer Camp

Location: Lake County, OH

Purpose: Fills a critical gap during summer for children with disabilities, helping maintain and enhance skills developed during the school year and reinforcing Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals, prevent skill regression, build independence, and provide respite for families.

Participants: 90 children and youth aged 3-21.

Duration: Five weeks each summer June-end of July, Thursdays from 9am-2pm held at Broadmoor School in Mentor.

Activities: Physical, occupational, speech, and music therapies, gym, food preparation, outdoor activities, and weekly special events.

Staff Ratio: 4:1.

Themes: Health, physical activity, nature appreciation, and technology.

Extras: Vocational training for older participants, snacks and on-site nursing care.​
